Our journey began with our founder, Drew Simon, who has always been passionate about making a difference. Drew is a non-profit enthusiast with over ten years of leadership experience in the non-profit and higher education sectors. He holds an M.Ed and has served as a Senior Leader, Director, and Advisor for multiple non-profit and charitable organizations.

Through his work, Drew has helped charities worldwide secure over $3.5 million in funding to support their charitable efforts. When he discovered blockchain technology, he saw an incredible opportunity to drive meaningful change on a global scale. Drew believed in the power of the collective—understanding that by bringing together curious minds and leveraging Web3's new coordination mechanisms, we could maximize the impact and drive significant social and environmental progress.

In May 2021, Drew launched our platform as Crypto Altruism, committed to exploring the intersection of blockchain technology and social impact. From the start, it was an exciting adventure filled with discovery and learning. We shared stories of innovative projects, built connections with like-minded individuals, and sparked conversations about how blockchain can address some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

As our community grew, so did our understanding of the vast possibilities that blockchain technology enables. We’ve had a lot of fun along the way, hosting events, engaging in lively discussions, and continuously learning from each other. The energy and enthusiasm of our community has been so inspiring.

Our favorite moments included interviewing 10 nonprofits about how they’re leveraging Web3 for good. Another highlight was attending ETH Denver and connecting in real life with builders and regens. The energy of the event was electric, and it was amazing to see the passion and innovation in the Web3 space firsthand. We have also celebrated numerous community achievements and milestones, from launching successful fundraising initiatives to hosting collaborative events that sparked new ideas and partnerships.

In June 2024, we rebranded to Crypto Altruists to better reflect our collective journey and shared purpose. This new identity underscores our commitment to fostering a vibrant community where collaboration and collective learning are at the forefront. We believe in the power of the collective, bringing curious minds together to explore how we can leverage blockchain for social and environmental good.

Through all the growth and changes, one thing has remained constant: our dedication to highlighting and supporting the positive impact of blockchain technology. The Web3 social impact space has evolved immensely—from a nascent movement where concepts like ReFi and DeSci had yet to gain prominence, to a thriving ecosystem addressing real-world challenges. Through bull and bear markets, the space has experienced incredible growth, and we’ve loved witnessing and being a part of this transformation.
